I used to believe that working hard was the answer, the more difficult the situation the better.  But I soon learned that the Universe does not reward you for effort, or hard work.  The Universe recognizes alignment and being in a state of energetic allowance.  

Now, of course, everything in nature requires some kind of energetic exchange, but this does not denote the kind of effort and struggle we usually engage in.
